Blue Hills

Blue Hills Reservation, which features 125 miles of hiking trails, boasts a rich variety of wild flora and fauna. The trails traverse a multitude of habitats including meadows, forests, swamps, and an Atlantic white cedar bog.

The diverse wildlife that live in the Blue Hills give pets a great excuse to run up and down the hills burning off energy and getting exercise.

Hancock Woods

The Hancock Woods, located on the VFW Parkway in West Roxbury, "includes three knobs of upland" that is surrounded by red maple swamp. It has several variety of trees, wildflowers, fungi, and ferns. The central eastern portion of the woods includes a large, open, wet meadow.

Wilson Mountain Reservation

Wilson Mountain Reservation is named after John Wilson, a farmer from the mid 1700's to whom ownership of the property was traced. The 207 acres of terrain bears few marks of having been a farm.

Wilson Mountain is carpeted with a variety of flowers, trees, and ferns. With wetlands, meadows, and hills, the terrain is varied as well. Hiding among the plant life are many species of highly chaseable woodland animals like chipmunks and red squirrels.

Needham Town Forest

The Needham Town Forest, which consists of approximately 200 acres of mature woods, has about 9 miles of trails that branch off of a centralized wood road that runs through most of the forest. The old road is about a mile long.
